The Monbukagakusho: MEXT scholarship program, initiated in 1954 by the Japanese Government, offers various categories of scholarships to foreign students. These include research students (monthly stipend: 144,000-145,000 yen), teacher training students (143,000 yen/month), undergraduate students (117,000 yen/month), Japanese studies students (117,000 yen/month), and others.
We are delighted to announce the Japanese Government (MEXT) scholarship program for the academic year 2023/2024, administered by the Nagasaki University Center for Japanese Studies and Student Exchange. This program aims to support international students who wish to pursue their studies in Japan.
Eligibility Criteria | Japanese Government (MEXT) scholarship 2023/2024 The eligibility criteria for the Japanese Government (MEXT) scholarship program differ depending on the application method chosen. There are three application routes: embassy recommendation, university recommendation, and domestic selection.
Embassy recommendation: Each year, the Japanese embassy or consulate general in your respective country recruits scholarship recipients. For more details, please contact the Japanese embassy or consulate general.
University recommendation: Every year, Nagasaki University selects graduate students from overseas and recommends them to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
Domestic selection: This scholarship is available to privately financed foreign students (both undergraduate and graduate) who are already enrolled at Nagasaki University. Annually, Nagasaki University recommends selected candidates to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Please consult the Liaison Center for International Education office for further information, as undergraduate students may not be eligible in certain cases.

Scholarship recipients are also permitted to undertake part-time jobs.
