This scholarship program has been introduced to provide international students with an opportunity to be exempted from additional tuition fees.

The UdeM Exemption Scholarship program has been established to provide support to international students pursuing their university studies. Starting in the fall of 2020, eligible candidates have been able to benefit from an exemption of the tuition fees typically charged to international students. The scholarship awards will continue to be granted for the winter 2023, summer 2023, fall 2023, and winter 2024 sessions.

The primary objective of this program is to assist the most talented individuals from all corners of the globe in attending one of the world’s leading francophone research universities. Simultaneously, these international students will contribute to our educational mission by enhancing the cultural diversity within the Université de Montréal community.

Eligibility Criteria:

To qualify for the UdeM Exemption Scholarship for International Students, prospective applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  1. Possess a study permit and do not hold permanent residency or Canadian citizenship.
  2. Enroll as full-time students in a study program for the entire duration of their studies.
  3. Not receive any other form of tuition fee exemption through alternative policies or measures. For instance, French and Belgian Francophone students already enjoy this type of exemption.

Scholarship Benefits:

Applicants for the UdeM Exemption Scholarship for International Students will receive the following benefits:

Undergraduate Programs:

The value of the scholarship is determined solely based on the excellence of the applicant’s academic record, assessed through the transcripts submitted during the admission application process. The evaluation results are categorized into the following three levels:

Level A: $12,465.60 per year (2 sessions, equivalent to 30 credits) or $6,232.80 per session (15 credits) or $415.52 per credit.

Level B: $5,940.90 per year (2 sessions, equivalent to 30 credits) or $2,970.45 per session (15 credits) or $198.03 per credit.

Level C: $2,078.10 per year (2 sessions, equivalent to 30 credits) or $1,039.05 per session (15 credits) or $69.27 per credit.

Students enrolled in a certificate, major, minor, short program, or preparatory year program for university studies will automatically receive the Level C award.

These scholarship amounts are applied to the annual tuition fees of $24,607.80 (30 credits).

Graduate Programs – Masters:

To support international students in their graduate studies, a partial exemption scholarship is available to offset the additional tuition fees typically charged to international students.

The scholarship amount is $9,787.95 per year (3 sessions, equivalent to 45 credits) or $3,262.65 per session (equivalent to 15 credits).

This scholarship is applied to the tuition fee of $27,992.70 per year (45 credits).

Graduate Programs – PhD:

To support international students in their doctoral studies, a complete waiver of the additional tuition fees normally imposed on international students is provided.

This exemption scholarship allows recipients to benefit from the same tuition fees as Quebec graduate studies students.

The scholarship amount is $21,038.13 per year (3 sessions, equivalent to 45 credits) or $7,012.71 per session (equivalent to 15 credits) for the entire duration of their studies.

This scholarship is applied to the tuition fees of $25,125.93 per year (45 credits).

Application Procedures:

To apply for the UdeM Exemption Scholarship for International Students, please follow the steps outlined below:

Step 1: Apply for admission: Begin your application and admissions process by using the “Compass” interactive checklist, which will guide you through the necessary steps. Before filling out the application form, ensure that you meet the application deadlines and review the admission requirements for your desired study programs.

Step 2: Monitor your application and receive an offer of admission: A few days after submitting your admissions application, you will receive access codes for the “Student Centre.” This platform allows you to track the progress of your application and receive your offer of acceptance letter.

Step 3: Accept the offer of admission to initiate the evaluation: There is no separate application required for the UdeM Exemption Scholarship. The eligibility and scholarship amount for new candidates will be evaluated based on their admissions file.

Step 4: Receive the notice of award with the scholarship amount: After accepting your offer of admission, the Université de Montréal will notify you promptly via email regarding the scholarship amount you are eligible to receive. Keep a printed copy of this document in a secure place for future reference.
